So recently I was collecting in Milan Mi And was walking the washouts and saw this poking out! So I took it to a fossil club and nobody could ID it further than Possible Decadocrinus crown!

I submitted it to the FOTM.

This is by far my best find ever!

Here is the prep Done by @crinus!

Crinoids in general are extremely rare at the Milan, Michigan site.  The site is Silica shale.  Unlike Sylvania, Ohio, very few crinoids have been found at this site and those that have been found are generally Arthroacantha.  This crinoid is a Decadocrinus hughwingi.  It isn't all that common at Sylvania but I don't think a complete crown has ever been found at Milan.

I haven't been able to get James to trade it to me.

Sounds like a previously described species but I wonder if this specimen is simply rare (or unprecedented) from the Milan site or scientifically important?

I always try to connect exceptional finds to paleontologists if they are specimens worthy of study. If it is a rare find but not worthy of study, then it at least deserves a prominent place in the display cabinet. ;)

Cheers.
