Unknown Plant?

Found this a couple years ago, never knew what it was. Is it perhaps a fossil? Is it just a mineral stain? No idea. It’s about 3 and a half cm long, almost 2 cm at its widest.

Do you remember where you collected it? 

And also rough size ?

Would help to narrow down ID

Yup! In the tags I put its location. July 13th, 2020 I found it along the shores of Nova Scotia Canada

I thought maybe an alethopteris, but the leaves seem to be too rounded, so I thought perhaps a young one? I don’t actually know though

Yup, saw NS.

But am not familiar with the area.

No mountain this time, just some sandy beaches with some limestone and shale

Looks like maybe a Pecopterid, to me.  Hard to tell with lack of detail in the photo.

Just an FYI - Be careful about collecting/picking up fossils in Nova Scotia.  You may need a permit to collect fossils there.

The fossil collecting laws are pretty strict, in Canada.

We never know if people are aware, so we need to make sure we are doing our due dilligence.

Of course! We don’t want someone to land a billion (exaggerated amount) dollar fine because they found something they thought was neat. I’ve seen my sister pick up stuff and go to put it in her pocket and both me and the work personnel look at each other and I’m the one who’s gotta break her heart lol
