New Members Clintols Posted 18 hours ago New Members Share Posted 18 hours ago This is a second post on this rock I found. It appears to be a crystallized fossil of a rattlesnake. I need someone to tell me if I’m wrong or maybe I’m correct. Pictures of the head and the rattle

Denis Arcand
I envy your imagination, but I can't see a snake shape, even though the shape is not what paleontologists look for in a fossil One fossil a day will keep you happy all day. Rockwood
I can see the suggestion of a rattle. I agree that it isn't one though.

Shape is definitely something to look for. Just not the only thing.
Denis Arcand
Just now, Rockwood said: I have to disagree. Shape is definitely something to look for. Just not the only thing. You’re absolutely right. What I meant to say is that we typically seek out bones, or skin fragments, but we rarely see a complete form, such as that of a snake. 1 One fossil a day will keep you happy all day. Fin Lover
Here's an example of a snake skull: You can see it's just the bones in the matrix. Soft tissue rarely fossilizes. 2 Fin Lover
Rockwood
The loose nature of the individual bones nicely illustrates why snake skull fossils are rare.
