Gareth_
Hey all I acquired a large fossil collection the other day, some specimens have good provenance... unfortunately this piece lacks provenance. I'd love to know more about it as it's one of the most stand out pieces in the collection. They look like paddle bones, but I'm not sure which is why I'm here! Like a lot of the fossils in this collection, they are coated with something, likely to help stabilize the fossils (just noting this as it explains why they look glossy). All but one bone are very similar in colour, perhaps they're associated but that's impossible to prove. 4 bones are no longer glued down so I took pics of both sides. I appreciate any input! Interesting, I know Plesiosaur material has been found in NZ. I unfortunately don't have any provenance with this piece. It is numbered (as is most of the colection) and I'm trying to get hold of a copy of the paperwork so I can get an ID on it. But getting it is not guaranteed. I acquired it from someone at work, he bought it 20+ years ago from the person that assembled this collection. He didn't buy the entire collection, there was another buyer and that other buyer has all of the paperwork. I wish the back story was less complicated, it would make my job IDing some of this a lot easier haha. It's all been sitting in storage boxes for pretty much all of those 20 years!
