New Members CERONAS Posted 2 hours ago New Members Share Posted 2 hours ago Could someone please help me identify this? 99% sure it’s a fossil of some type. Was found at a beach on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. There is about a 50-100 ft tall bluff that goes along the shore. This was found sticking out of a thick clay layer found right at the bottom of this bluff. Thanks in advance!

New Members CERONAS Posted 47 minutes ago Author New Members Share Posted 47 minutes ago I did consider a rib bone of some type. Wouldn't the flat face of the bone face inward toward the curvature of the piece? The curvature in relation to the oval shape of the end seems to be going the wrong way for a rib bone. I could definitely be wrong though.

I could be wrong, but it definitely looks like rib to me. 24 minutes ago, Rockwood said: So, the density would indicate pachyostosis in the distal end? Here are some rib bones I picked up on my last trip (dugong and cetacean, I believe)...you can see that they are all very dense.
