Travertine crabs from Turkey

Recommended Posts

Dear TFF,

I just got these two Pleistocene crabs - Potamons, from Turkey. Is there any way of telling whether they are both genuine?

First comes the bigger one, and then - its smaller brother.

What do you think?

Real!

One of my favorites!

I love the way they seem be hiding in the rock!

Thanks :) I like them too and I always wanted to have one of this kind in my collection - so when opportunity presented itself to get them for a reasonable price, I "crabbed" it :crab:;)

i would have "crabbed" them both , too! lol! They  are fabulous specimens in their travertine forever homes.

During a recent fishing vacation in Alaska, I "crabbed" this one...but it had no chance to become a fossil...because I ate it!

This one would make a beautiful fossil - also if it was preserved in colour 😍

Yes, I agree, the color is pleasing to the eye.
