Hello

I have this gastropod fossil from  South Florida (see image). I know it's a Vokesimurex. But I am not sure about it's species name even though I have giving it one. I would appreciate second opinions. Please what is the species name.

At first glance, this looks like a Bolinus brandaris (Murex brandaris) snail shell to me.

But don't take me for granted. I'm not an expert on fossil snails.

Nor for other fossils.

Edit. - Huh. I just realized you swirl the wrong way. Is the photo mirrored or anything because that would be an issue. 😁

bellgladeensis Or annaie ?

Worn down a bit. The “entrance” (sorry I’m super amateur at this) on the annaie is offset to the tail of the shell. Yours flows directly into it like the bellegladeensis.

On the other hand the annaie has 3 fairly distinct barbs and one on the tail of the shell. So it looks more annaie in that regard.

Best guess from me. 😊

Wow thanks I think it was not swirled the wrong way but rather the opening was fragmented. Nice choices

Don't you think its Vokesimurex tryoni?

The aperture shape is very important for identification.

Here is Vokesimurex tryoni

Totally agree about bolinus brandaris, everything matches, even the yellow color of the mouth

Dang!! Y’all nailed it. Had I stopped long enough to look up your suggestion I guess we’d be done earlier. 😊🤦🏼‍♂️Tunnel vision is real. 😁

Thanks for a fun search though!!
