Mazon Creek Flora ID Help

Hello All,

I've started going through my collection built from my youth up to now. I've been using the Wittry books on Mazon Creek flora and fauna and am having difficulty distinguishing between the various species of the more common examples. My thoughts are the fern could be: Pecopteris oreiopterida or Diplazites unita. The stem could be Cordaites borassifolius or just a random stick? Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thank you,

I think the second one is a Cordaites  leaf.

I'm leaning towards Pecopteris oreopteridia for the first one and Cyperites bicarinatus for the second, but I'm not 100% sure for either one. We would need much better photos of both and discernable venation on the first to make a 100% positive ID of genus and species.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Agreed. I missed the lined paper in the background as scale.
