What does the other side and edge look like? I'm thinking it is either a turtle shell piece or a croc osteoderm.

A photo of the other side would be very helpful for ID, but the texture and shape doesn't seem right for any kind of Sciaenidae (drum fish) that I've seen... I thinkin' some sort of scute as well.

I'm no expert however ;)
