New Members Ember Posted 12 hours ago New Members Share Posted 12 hours ago Can anyone confirm if this is a coral horn? Found in Montana limestone near crinoids. 🌎 Fossil curves through and around host rock, poking out on top. Did my best to include all angles. Photos with measurements are cm and in. Thanks!  IMG_3961.mov
TqB
Welcome to the forum.  Yes, it's a solitary coral, aka "horn coral" though that's a very broad term that can apply to many types. Good photos! I can't tell at the moment whether it's a rugose (Palaeozoic only) or scleractinian (Mesozoic onwards) coral; it looks rugose at first glance but the end section is confusing me! There's a huge range range of sedimentary rock ages in Montana so an approximate location should help to determine its age and narrow down an ID.
