I found a concentration concretion a while back and used the freeze/thaw method.

Seems to be some sort of fossil inside but not sure what it is.

I'm not an expert on this stuff but for the people that might know a location would be an necessary thing to find your id

The tag says Illinois, so I am guessing carboniferous/Mazon Creek type siderite concretion.

Maybe a Cordaites or Cyperites leaf?

I caught that to but I think Illinois varies quite a bit in geological ages so I was just wondering

I agree - the location where the item was found should always be posted in the body of the topic. State/County/nearest city is always helpful.

 

Definitely some different eras present in Illinois.

But given the images, I can infer a Carboniferous age for the fossil.

Looks like a Mazon concretion to me. I think it's a flattened Calamites branch though.
