Species Indentification

I am very confused on this point....

I have been collecting at the 20 Mile Creek, Frankstown Site in North Mississippi. An identification book from the state of Mississippi for this site lists a particular fossil tooth as Anamoeodus latidens and notes it as a ray. Now, the only mention of this particular species (that I have been able to find) is on one website for selling fossils found at the site which we are collecting.

I searched the Genus Anamoeodus and find it as a Pycnodontiforme (pycnodont), a fish.

So, is this a fish or ray?

I previously posted a pic on the forum and the consensus was pycnodont teeth. That is what brings up this point.

Hello Rod.

The pycnodonts are fish, not rays.

See here:

Hope this helps.
