Auspex
Yup; a classic example of nature's little bundt cake! Angela
Thanks! That's a cute way to put it too--especially since I understand cake much better than fossils
Guest solius symbiosus
I'm thinking it is the negative of an external mold, but I could be wrong.
Auspex
I'm thinking it is the negative of an external mold, but I could be wrong. Maybe, but I can see the dissolved negative of the shell in the protruding matrix; doesn't look like "fossil-after-fossil-after-fossil", more like the shell dissolved after the matrix hardened.
