For All You North Carolina Members.. Whats Up With The Maysville Quarry

Has anyone from NC tried to collect at the Maysville Martin Marietta Quarry? I have called there several times in the last couple of weeks and never get the same answer twice. One day it was we are open today from 1:30 to 3:30 for collecting. I asked about the next day and was told to call back in the morning. I called the next morning and was told they were not open to collecting because of flooding. Two weeks earlier i was told not that week because of heavy mining. Any one got any clues?

I do not know for sure sixgill pete but I believe I seen a thread talking about aurora and other mines and I maybe wrong but am thinking they mentioned Maysville there also not sure I remember what was said about it though...

I called last year and got a 'no.' So no idea. I'd like to go though.

I am going to keep calling and find out what is the deal. I enjoy collecting there. Plus it is only about 12 miles from the house. I will let you know what the outcome is.

Normally there has never been a problem with going into this mine, call ahead for the times and come on in so to speak. However, about the middle of last summer they closed it due to heavy mining for a state highway construction project and then we had some very heavy rains that caused major flooding around here. And no you don't see eastern NC flooding on the national news. I just wish I could get a straight answer from them, I have been trying to get a hold of the mine manager with no luck, but I am continually trying.
