West4me
I would be interesting in going and hunting some ammonites. I find some small ones (I think they are ammonites, you can see one in my profile picture) in Missouri but would like to try a different spot. Anyone have any suggestions? Throw out any ideas, the closer the better but I don't mind a good road trip. "You have to listen. It is under the rocks."
Xiphactinus
West4Me -- I'd say the coon Creek area of Tennessee is the closest area for ammonites. You can find nautoloids throughout Missouri, here and there, but ammonites are hard to come by.
Petoskeygal
You aren't that far from Texas, and they find some HUGE ammonites down there!
FossilDAWG
There are ammonites in the coon Creek, and in the Owl Creek too, but they are rare and usually not complete specimens. It seems half of Texas is made of ammonites, and most of the rest of echinoids with various teeth and vertebrae filling in what is left over. If you're thinking road trip, I'd head in that direction. West4me
Thanks, my cheap little road trip appears to be getting more and more expensive. "You have to listen. It is under the rocks."
Coco
and a boat... While using this means of transportation some people are persuaded that the water level came down during their hunting, so it is hard for them to put back the boat to the water ! :laughing on the floor 24: :laughing on the floor 24: Coco ---------------------- OUTIL POUR MESURER VOS FOSSILES : ici Pareidolia : here Ma bibliothèque PDF 1 (Poissons et sélaciens récents & fossiles) : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 2 (Animaux vivants - sans poissons ni sélaciens) : ici Mâchoires sélaciennes récentes : ici Hétérodontiques et sélaciens : ici Oeufs sélaciens récents : ici Otolithes de poissons récents ! ici Un Greg...
