Fossil Hunting In The Uk

Recommended Posts

I notice there is at least one UK based person on this list...

What are the legalities of taking fossils off the shore cliffs around the UK.

I did some collecting around the park at Dover. It is my understanding that taking stuff off the cliff is a no-no but the chunks that fall off is fair game.

Collecting from the cliffs is not allowed in lots of places, allowed in others. Check the area you are interested in on the forum mentioned above and click "Locations". The Dorset coast is a NoNo, as is the Red Crag cliff at Walton on the Naze, Essex and many other areas. Collecting is allowed from the fallen rock at these areas though.

That was the impression I got... about collecting from the fallen parts of the cliffs.

Thanks much.
