jax
I found these a month or so back and couldnt figure out what they were. Found in the Kamp Ranch Limestone layer in Dallas county. I have never seen any petrified wood in this layer before, just some ash. OK the first one, I cant tell if its bone or wood. It is pretty porous. Second one is smooth and shiney with nice color to it. round like bone or a tusk or something. Not sure Oh I found something that looks like a gemstone. Its almost like a purple color. I dont ahve a pic of that yet. Thanks Jax

Auspex
The first one is definitely bone, and the second is probably also. In end view, does the second one have a small hole running through it lengthwise, and is there any sign of concentric rings? There are no rings that I can see. Im sure this was broken many years ago and the ends are almost black. That hole doesnt run all the way thru. Auspex
In that case, I'm going with bone.
