Fruitbat
Unfortunately, Bison and Bos remains can be difficult to distinguish. How about a picture of the occlusal (chewing) surface of the teeth. That might help a little. -Joe Illigitimati non carborundum Fruitbat's PDF Library

Roz
If you like it, regardless of it's age, I would keep it. Everyones treasures are different. People might think I was a wacko if they saw the stuff I pick up and keep. And it does have a nice color. I can't always tell if bone is fossilized because in some areas it is rockified, and other places, not. I think maybe in the Dakotas the fossils look different, but have never hunted there. Auspex
...it's a 157-year-old cow, isn't it? But she had a cousin who was a bison's friend... I kinda need to know this, guys, because trash day is Monday, and I need to know whether to treasure or toss. I mean, treasuring a cow jaw would be udderly ridiculous... It's a pretty artifact at the least. Maybe it's from a bison that took an arrow! Maybe it's from a Longhorn that died on the Chisholm Trail! Don't be throwing it in the trash!!! If you just can't bear to keep it, make up a story and give it to some seven-year-old.
