Maniraptoran
does anyone know how to remove dolomite from calcite fossils (petoskey stones, for instance) ?
glacialerratic
For that, you will need the proper tools. Be sure the fossil in question is calcite. In our big sand box, a lot of fossils in dolomite are silica replaced.
fossilcrazy
does anyone know how to remove dolomite from calcite fossils (petoskey stones, for instance) ? Unfortunately any chemical that will dissolve Dolomite (Calcium Magnesium Carbonate) will more aggressively dissolve Calcite (Calcium Carbonate). That leaves physical removal methods only.
