If you have an interest in fossil mollusks, they are certainly worth keeping (at least a few representative specimens). I have several, from a number of different sites, but I am interested in bivalve evolution and in collecting representatives of the whole fauna from certain formations. If you are interested in ammonites but not in bivalves, they may not be worth collecting, except in the sense that they are a guide to the age of the outcrop/layer they came from.
