JohnJ
The Winner of the 2011 Invertebrate / Plant Find Of The Year is the Florissantia speirii fossil flower from the Oligocene Little Butte Volcanic Series of Oregon, USA! When I first saw the photos, I couldn't believe the detailed preservation and striking colors. Let's congratulate Scott (piranha) on his beautiful find and award! :jig: :jig: :jig: More than an Honorable Mention goes to Kevin's (Northern Sharks) Pleurocystites cystoids that were barely shaded by Scott's flower in a record setting flurry of votes! Thanks to all the winners for sharing their finds with TFF. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ

piranha
Wow ... still trying to catch my breath and thanks so much to everyone that participated. It's never overstated to mention that all of the fossils are winners. In this setting truly demonstrated as the battle of the previous best from 2011 was quite a roller-coaster ride up to the final moments. The last 24 hours have been quite adrenalized to say the least. With all of the magnificent invertebrate entries outflanking the flower I'm just relieved the voting is finally over. One more tiebreaker and I was ready to concede to Kevin's incredible Pleurocystites Plate... for the record: I agree wholeheartedly with Chas on wanting to avoid the swimsuit competition... after all, my Speedo wearing days are long behind me! With the increased visibility here at TFF the Oregon fossils are a big winner along with the UO-Thomas Condon Museum that will benefit as a direct result of the donation of the flower fossil into the permanent collection. The moment the flower first saw the light of day, my friend looked over at me and simply said: "That's a good one!" The gratitude for the opportunity to find it and present it here is immeasurable... Thanks again everyone!
