New Members Dantheman Posted February 10, 2012 New Members Share Posted February 10, 2012 I found this in the Niagara Gorge about 2 years a go around the power plant area.
Sharkbyte
Hello Dan the Man, That is a very interesting find but I am not sure it is ribs. It may be helpful to provide a few more pictures including showing the broken ends. I wonder if it might not be plant related. Just a thought really. I don't know what it is but maybe someone will have the answer you are looking for. FossilDAWG
It's the impression of a nautiloid, possibly Dawsonoceras. Not "animal ribs" in the vertebrate rib sense, but a long tapering shell, round in cross-section, and encircled by ridges. Rob Russell
I agree with Don. Here are some of my picks of Dawsonoceras for comparison. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php/gallery/album/726-cephalopods/page__sortby__idate__sortorder__asc__st__50 Finding my way through life; one fossil at a time.
