Mike Owens
The more complete one of the two is my best vertebrae. It was sent to the Smithsonian for identification in the mid '70's. I'm trying to recover the letter that was returned with it. Question: What animal are them from? MOROPUS
From what era does it comes? Is it Cretaceous,or Eocene? A single vertebra is difficult to say, but I have some candidates....

Mike Owens
i would guess mosasaur. but what type i have no idea.brock That makes two of us. All I know it is, most likely, Mosasaur. Considering it came from the North Sulpher River that's a pretty good assumption. If I remember correctly, the Smithsonian didn't positively identify it either. I really need to get a copy of the letter that was with it when the specimen was returned from them. I just think it's a really neat fossil.
