New Members Domino989 Posted November 15, 2008 New Members Share Posted November 15, 2008 My wife found this while we were walking a dry creek bed in Dona Ana County, NM. We've looked at countless images on the web, and in books, and just can't come to a solid conclusion as to what this is. Based on pictures we've seen, we're thinking it's a blastoid, but we are relatively new to collecting, and don't want to jump to conclusions and end up being wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!
LanceH
Certainly from the echinoderm phylum... crinoid columnal maybe? The dark part would be in fill of sediment.

Auspex
Could it be an echinoid that got roughed-up in the creek? Roz
I can't see it clear enough to tell from the pic. Looks like a crinoid star to me though more than an ech. I could be wrong. Welcome to the forum!
mommabetts
I have nothing to add to Lance's ID because he is probably right but I wanted to say WELCOME to the forum.

sarahjane
Hi, I agree, looks like a crinoid star to me. Here is one of mine for comparison - there are a bunch that are the same shape as yours. If you look in the middle of the close-up and you should see one that has the same coloring as yours. Mine are smaller of course but otherwise pretty close.

Dave Daniel AKA (Bones)
Looks like one of those Christmas cookie dough packages that already has a pattern in it and you slice it off. But Lance is probably correct. v = 0.25 * g0.5 * SL1.67 * h-1.
