From what I see I think it is a snail and all you have is the body whorl or lower half of the critter. I believe that the aperature or the part that the critter came out of is hidden in the matrix. The ornamentation suggests the Genus Buccinofusus. Worthy, be advised that these are just my best guess without actually seeing the specimen.
