New Members xlt Posted January 11, 2009 New Members Share Posted January 11, 2009 Hello everyone! I am new to shark tooth collecting, and I need help identifying a few teeth I found. These teeth were obtained at Fernandina Beach, Florida within the last couple of months. Please help if you can! Thanks!
Pool Man
Hello! Welcome to the forum! The largest tooth is a Mako(isurus Hastalis) the second largest is what I call a sand shark(Carcharias taurus). I'm not sure about the other two, but i'm curious to see what others have to say. Northern Sharks
Pool man is correct on the large ones, and I believe the 2 smaller ones are Carcharhinus sp. To narrow it down more, the larger of the 2 smaller ones may be an upper anterior Carcharhinus plumbeus, or Sandbar shark. I have a modern jaw and it looks very similar. My first impression was a small Great White, but the nutrient groove killed that theory (plus Florida GW's are rare) The other, I can't be more specific with as several species of Carcharhinus have similar looking teeth. 1 There's no limit to what you can accomplish when you're supposed to be doing something else
