had a pond dug last year and found this rock in the debris. was thinking it was a tree but the lobed shape and concentric rings around a central stem made me think of an onion kind of bulb. any thoughts??? thinking of breaking it in another spot to see if the rings continue throughout the rock but I don't want to ruin it.

looks like a nice piece of banded sandstone.

Sorry, but I don't think this is a fossil

This looks more geologic, than biologic in origin, to me.

The concentric rings would indicate that it may be a concretion of some sort, but the outside of it does not look like a concretion.

Strange.

Maybe some others will weigh in.

don't be sorry, not worried about it being a fossil or not. Just interested in what it might be
