Just curious to see if I got it right. I know very little when it comes to invertebrates. It's two inches across.

Added front & other side views.

It`s a Spiriferid brachiopod member. They lived from (as far as I remember), from Silurian, up to Permian or even Triassic (only in Madagascar, I think!). But I can`t help you in more.

New frontal, and upper pics needed! Sorry! ;)

Here in North Texas. I can't remember where for sure, but I think in Forth Worth.

Hello Mike:

I think it could be Spirifer mucronatus from the Devonian.

These links could help you:

http://www.geocities.com/atrypa/brach4.html

http://www.uky.edu/KGS/fossils/nettelroth.htm#6 (look for Devonian brachiopods)

I didn't know there were any Devonian exposures in North Texas. Hopefully someone here, more knowledgeable than myself, will speak up.

If the fossil is from west of Ft.Worth it could be Spirifer arkansanus found in the Pennsylvanian. Nice fossil. All of them I ever collected had one or both wings broken off.

I've hunted North to Bridgeport & West to Mineral Wells, so that makes sense. Thanks.
