Bev
Ordovician Probably Prosser member of the Galena Formation SE Minnesota Wolffish found this and the rock was too big for him to take with him on a plane. Trying for an ID. And for scale... I'm just clueless! Thoughts anyone? Thanks for looking! The more I learn, I realize the less I know. piranha
What you have is the hypostome of an Isotelus that has merged and fossilized with the pygidium of the Galena trilobite: Failleana rowleyi Congrats on a very unusual association of trilobites!

Bev
THANK YOU Scott! I kept on looking at that thinking that it looked like two trilobite parts but not in the right placement at all. And then there was the tail.... Which if this is a composite trilo that "tail" could also be a composite added piece from something. Again, THANK YOU, for solving a true fossil puzzle! I like hash plates. The ones that are a sample of the sea bed are often called "death assemblages". You can get a magnifying glass and immerse yourself into it and image you are diving on an ancient seabed.
