Gatra Vonresto
Dear my all friends, Here is one of my collection. The local people believe that it is a bamboo. But, I am opened to the experts' comments in this forum in order to correct our misinterpretation here. Sincerely yours,Gatra

Auspex
Palm, I think, judging from the vascular structures and the bulbous shape. kauffy
I agree with Auspex, looks very much like the bulbous/porous base of a palm. tmaier
I will agree with palm (cycad). Cycads have vascular structures that make them easy to identify. Here's a poor image of one, showing the vascular structure of the fossilized wood.
Carl
I definitely see another palm base here, too! Love these things!
Carl
I will agree with palm (cycad). Cycads have vascular structures that make them easy to identify. Here's a poor image of one, showing the vascular structure of the fossilized wood. CYCAD.JPG Palms are actually not at all closely related to cycads - they are very different groups of plants. Your photo is a but hard to make out but I think it is a palm. And, technically, palm trunks should not be considered wood. Wood is a very different structure found in gymosperms and angiosperms. Palm trunks are usually referred to as stems and as being composed of palm fibers. Edited September 15, 2014 by Carl

Gatra Vonresto
Well, gentlemen. I think today I am taking such valuable knowledge from you all. I couldn't distinguish between bamboo and palm, and also the previous one I posted called "suweg". But now I have a little bit know about them. So, we can conclude that it is a palm. By the way, about Mr. Carl's explanation, I agree with Kauffy, Thank you very much gentlemen. You're very helpful.
tmaier
Doh! I called palm a cycad. Too early in the morning. Being from Florida, I should know better. I just planted cycads in the front lawn this year.
