FossilMo
Hey guys, I hesitated to ask this because I have many other questions like this and people might not want to share spots but I'm going to Florida this Sunday. Can any one give me a fossil hunting spot near Fort Lauderdale. If not, it can be anywhere in Florida. I really want to do something fun with my family. Thanks for everything guys! Shellseeker
I would be amazed if you are able to find a location on such short notice. Contact Fred Mazza http://fossilhuntingtours.com/He has a business of guiding fossil hunting tours and lives close to Fort Lauderdale. I will be having the trip somewhere near next Saturday. I'm just leaving on Sunday. Anyway, thanks for the info!
minnbuckeye
Just north of Okeechobee (Probably spelled wrong. too lazy to lookup) is a place that for a nominal price allows you to collect. I had a great time there. Be ready to get wet and dirty. Clams and whelks the most numerous fossils. But the amazing thing is that MANY specimens contain beautiful crystals. The beauty of these crystals can not be shown properly through photos. 27deg31'40.99"n 80deg46'13.17"w
Shellseeker
minnbuckeye may be (or may be not) referencing Ruck's Pit: http://www.thefortdrumcrystalmine.com/. Without a guide like Fred, you would need kayak, shovel, sieve to hunt the Peace River around Wauchula. FossilMo
Yeah, thanks for the location. I contacted Fred and hes not available. So it seems I'll have to go by myself. Is there any recommendations? Should I go to Wauchula or Arcadia? Edited June 27, 2015 by FossilMo
