Jenerator
I think I asked this before but not sure in which thread or if it was ever answered. I got some fossilized reptile poop (coprolite) & so did a friend for my son - it's to put in his stocking for Christmas. They're both covered with this red/orange rust looking stuff that rubs off on a paper towel. What is this & is it dangerous if he breathes it or sticks his finger in his mouth without remembering to wash his hands first? Should I try washing them under water? I don't want to ruin them. If you zoom in on the photos you can see little bit of the rust stuff on the paper in the background. Ludwigia
I could imagine that the coprolite is somewhat pyritized and that that red stuff is limonite. In other words, rust.
