Northern Sharks
This is not my strongest area, so I'll ask the group. Is it possible to ID a particular batoid based on a dermal denticle? This one came today and originates from Bone Valley FL. Any help appreciated as always There's no limit to what you can accomplish when you're supposed to be doing something else
Northern Sharks
OK, no takers. How about this: Does the shape of the denticle indicate where on the critter it came from? Boesse
Purdy et al. (2001) referred dermal denticles/bucklers of this 'type' to the thornback ray, Dasyatis centroura. However, they referred three different morphologies to D. centroura, and I suspect that this may actually be from a skate (Raja spp.) Bobby
