Oh-Man
I doubt IDing these will be nearly as difficult as JohnJ's new echinoid! Attached are pix in a couple of different sequences. First is a mystery bone: What is geology? "Rocks for Jocks!"
Oh-Man
And more: I can't tell if this is the mold from a gastropod. The spindle shape suggests yes, but the uniform size of the bands suggests no. What is geology? "Rocks for Jocks!"
Oh-Man
Turtle? Antler, but what type? Mystery bone and what I think is my thickest chunk of dugong rib. All help is appreciated. BTW, I didn't find any whole megs, but a couple o hundred other teeth for the jar. Thanks for the trip Mango! What is geology? "Rocks for Jocks!" CreekCrawler
I'm glad you were able to collect the famous Peace River.I have a few shark teeth from there by way of e-bay. I have a perfect 2" meg from there. It's probably my favorite tooth that I have. A nice dark green color. One of these days I'll get down that way! Harry Pristis
I doubt IDing these will be nearly as difficult as JohnJ's new echinoid! Attached are pix in a couple of different sequences. First is a mystery bone: This mystery bone appears to be what's left of a deer cannon bone (metapodial) after passing through the gut of a big 'gator. Well, at least, it's a cannon bone from a deer. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

BTW, I didn't find any whole megs, but a couple o hundred other teeth for the jar. Thanks for the trip Mango! The first image is of a turtle neural bone. The antler is Odocoileus sp., a white tail deer. I can't help with the other mystery bones. The images are very poor -- is the flash on your camera not working? http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Oh-Man
i think worthy may be onto something the bone density reminds me of dugong Of the last three pix, two are the same bone and the third is the hefty dugong rib. I'll take more pix with the flash (it was on auto, but I guess there was just enough light to trick it off). Not sure with the flash if it helps, but here we go. What is geology? "Rocks for Jocks!" Oh-Man
I am reminded of a parietal/supraoccipital skull cap of a dugong. Harry - thanks for the help! Any thoughts on the ?gastropod - or is it even one? Thanks What is geology? "Rocks for Jocks!"
Harry Pristis
Harry - thanks for the help!Any thoughts on the ?gastropod - or is it even one? Thanks Nothing comes to mind, 'Oh-Man'. If it is gastropod, it almost certainly comes from the underlying Tampa Limestone (Early Miocene, ca. 25 Ma.) The Tampa Limestone is the source of silicified (agatized) coral, but plenty of other, less-conspicuous things are preserved in the same manner. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
