You might be looking at the roof of the mouth. Premax with the obvious teeth, one of the maxilla above it.

Small update with a few pics. Odd one I can't figure out is the second picture, its about 18" long and the piece on the right side is flat. Sternum plate? With an appendage?

I think I mentioned it in the first post, but yes it is. I think its marcasite to be more specific, not 100%. Haven't had any problems with it yet, especially seeing as its been in storage for 5 years now. So fingers crossed!

I must have missed that part of the OP. You've been lucky. I'd still treat it ASAP. I've seen that stuff decided to break down after years of storage un-treated just because there was a really humid season.

Don't have much more progress currently. I received my All Air Tools scribe a while back and have been prepping ammonites since, getting used to everything before I jump back into the mosasaur. I will post some more pics soon!

That piece with the teeth certainly seems to be a premax. Are you planning to take any of these out of the rock? If so, you may need to learn about carbowax.

Unfortunately, no updates. We took in a house guest for the summer (till mid August) and he is living in my fossil room where I was doing my prep.

I have no intentions of removing anything completely from matrix, unless necessary. My intentions are to to prep everything as deep as possible, plane each blocks surface and then arrange them within a ~3x5' rectangle. Once I get the arrangement the way I like it, I will fill the area with plaster to make it one solid piece. I do have a handful of loose vertebrae and teeth that will need to be placed somehow, but that will be cake compared to getting all of it prepped.

Expectations are for future wall mount.

Sounds like your house guest needs some lessons in fossil prep.
