New Members morganchase Posted April 7, 2016 New Members Share Posted April 7, 2016 A friend of mine found these in a cave in Colorado somewhere and a lot of big bone and looks like glass rocks but these to me looks like alligator heads you can see teeth on one and looks like his hand on top of his head I don;t know the difference between fossil and petrified
Troodon
Welcome to the forum. I do not see any bone in your specimen. Looks like a very suggestive geologic shape.
jpc
Ditto. Hate to tell you, but it's another weird shaped rock. There are a lot of them out there. Fossil bones always have bone texture... I don't see any here.

RoadcutHannah
Just a rock, but keep looking - you never know what you'll find! The Amateur Paleontologist
Sorry to say, but it's just a weirdly shaped rock. This happens very often, mistaking rocks for fossils. Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy! Q. Where do dinosaurs study? A. At Khaan Academy!... Fossildude19
Sorry, but it's not a fossil. I see no bone texture, no bilateral symmetry, and no skull morphology. Fossildude19
Pareidolia. Sorry, but you are seeing what you want to see in some "familiar looking shapes". No need to get upset, because we don't agree with you. (All caps looks like you are yelling, on the internet. ) Please compare your specimens with actual images of alligator skulls. If you are objectively looking at them, you will see they bear slight to no resemblance to an actual skull. There is really no bone texture to your item. No skull morphology, or identifiable parts of a skull are visible,... and the supposed "teeth" do not bear any enamel, as in true alligator teeth. You aren't getting the answers you are looking for here, ... despite the answers of at least 100 years of combined fossil experience between all of the members who have replied,... two of whom DO actually work in museums. We base our decisions on facts and experience. We are not convinced from your pictures that you have anything other than an oddly shaped piece of rock there. We have no reason to lie to you about what we are seeing. If you are still in doubt, please bring your items to a local university or museum, and speak to a paleontologist about these items. We would love to be proven wrong.
