married2rick
It was suggested that these were fish spines. Looking for confirmation.
FossilDAWG
These are trace fossils, they are burrows made by an animal searching for food in the sea floor sediment. They are not fish spines, and neither are any of the other specimens you posted, they are all trace fossils. Don

married2rick
Well come on back to PA some time Plax! Maybe you can teach me the different rock formations that we have here? (Kinzers=Swatara, Mahantango=Seven Stars) But I don't know the formations from the Kistler's 850 road cut / quarry! (or any of the other locations I plan to visit like Ralston, Pa) Can you help? Plax
the road cut at swatara is Ordovician Martinsburg Formation under Silurian conglomerate (if I recall correctly). The material at the state park is Mahantango. The Kinzers is Cambrian and is exposed in Lancaster and York Counties. Got nice Olenellid trilobites in Lancaster in the 70s and 80s. I recall one site exposed behind a shoe store on Harrisburg Pike? Not sure about your other localities
