MarkGelbart
I think this is Scirius carolinensis Holocene age. I found it at the base of a tree in the woods behind my house. My knowledge of anatomy is so bad, I can't tell for sure which is the anterior and which is the posterior end. I'm also not seeing any vertebrae. Maybe I have it backwards and this is the back end. Anyway, what is it? Considering their abundance, tree squirrels are relatively rare in the Pleistocene fossil record because they live in the forest and when they die their bodies get mixed in with acidic leaves and dissolve. Their fossils are mostly found in caves when birds of prey carry them in and drop or defecate them.
