barefootgirl
Don't ya just love it! Sharks teeth are by far my favorite thing to find and I'm glad you got to find that one. That is one super sweet tooth!! Thanks for showing us and I hope you do as well on all your other hunts. non-remanié
great nj tooth!! but i would say that its an Otodus from the paleocene, rather than a cretaceous tooth. are you sure about what formation(s) you are hunting? it might be that you are in the Hornerstown formation, which can yield latest cretaceous (KT) material in the basal part and paleocene material in the upper part of the formation. ---Wie Wasser schleift den Stein, wir steigen und fallen---

When I saw the picture I was also thinking Otodus. It has a very robust root and the basal groove seems very broad. Is the Wenonah the only formation exposed along that stream? fossilselachian
i found this big cretolamna yesterday mornin at a cretaceous spot in south jersey. measures in right at an inch and 7/8ths. my largest cretaceous shark tooth yet. As others have suggested, this tooth seem almost certainly an example of Otodus. I've just never seen/heard of Cretolamna teeth reaching nearly 2" in size. The only other large Cretaceous teeth of this size/morphology which immediately comes to mind are Cretodus and I don't think I've ever heard of this genus from NJ (need to check Fowler's publication). Cretodus is more associated with the areas of TX, KS, the Dakotas and perhaps even from MN (along the SD border). Just my "off the head" two cents.
