Texas Mystery Fossils #5

From n. Sulphur River.

These black concave objects were all over, similar shape and size to all of them - football shape, about an inch. Has anyone found these and if so, what are they?

You can be hit by a boat and die

You can be attacked by a shark and die

OR you could fall off the couch and die

GET OFF THE COUCH - go scuba!

These are heavily phosphated something or others? A lot of fossils in the NSR come in that flavor. Then again, I'm still learning, and could be wrong.

phosphate nodules from organic remains. a lot of that stuff tends to be pretty reworked baculites segments, but don't really recognize the ones you're showing.

There are a lot of the phosphate deposits that as far as I can tell is nothing. From tiny up to the size of your fist almost. You have to look at it close, fifty percent of the time it is a recognizable fossil and the rest aren't.
