Texas Mystery Bone

Recommended Posts

This bone I found in Tarrant County in a creek bed. It was partially buried in a sandbar. To me, when in water, it looked very mineralized (different colors, hard) but when I put it in my hot, dry car in 100+ degree heat, it dried out and the surface layer began to flake off. The bone is hollow straight through. When I showed it to my husband, he told me he thought it was a recent bone. He knows nothing about fossils so what do you all think?

You can be hit by a boat and die

You can be attacked by a shark and die

OR you could fall off the couch and die

GET OFF THE COUCH - go scuba!

Doesn't look fossilized. Could be a cow bone. The thing about cows is that they are delicious!

not a fossil. lower limb bone, but broken on both ends like that can't be identified. well fossilized bone is very hard and very dense normally. there are a number of discussions here on the forum regarding how to recognize fossil bone. please review some of the past topics and you will find a bunch of good info.
