tracer Posted July 2, 2009 Share Posted July 2, 2009 well, it looks like one of those tricky geological things that happens in a void or "vug" in sedimentary rock. we definitely need better pics, but i'd guess it's limestone outer with crunchy goodness inside consisting of calcite and aragonite (the brown part). your pictures need to be resized to much smaller dimensions to display correctly here. maybe go with 1000 pixels or less in the longest dimension (normally the width). Frank Menser Posted July 2, 2009 Share Posted July 2, 2009 It may have orrigionally been bone, but I am not too keen on that. The white end has what looks like a hole is reminicent of agate nodules I have seen in Texas. The golden to brown crystals do look like calcite which is not an unusual combination.
