mcurasco8
Recently I've found a few large pieces of turritella in a sandstone matrix. The problem is most of the pieces have large cracks in the stone. Are there are any restoration methods that have worked to strengthen the rock? Also, is there any type of spray plastic or poly that can be used on these type of pieces? Thanks M
Auspex
To consolidate permeable stone, many favor Duco cement, thinned liberally with acetone. ashcraft
You can also try the cheapest spray-on finish you can find, ususally the Wal-Mart brand runs a dollar or so a can. The reason it is cheaper is that it is mostly solvest with less finish, so it actually penetrates the rock better, and multiple coats can be applied.
