dsludden
Can anyone help me identify these two teeth? I am new to fossil collecting and need to learn more. Can you also explain how you know what type species the teeth came from- this way I will know how to identify in future. Found at Onslow Beach, Jacksonville, NC Thank you
sixgill pete
These teeth, like many found on the beach are extremely water worn. However I believe both to be mega shark teeth. Otodus sp. is what I would most likely label them. Since they were found on Onslow Beach they are most likely Oligocene in age, that would make them Otodus angustidens. dsludden
Thank you for the reply! I quickly went to a website that discusses this type of shark. I also found badly worn vertebrae. I wonder if it is from same species. I will research the New Zeland specimen that was found in well preserved condition. I can’t thank you enough for taking time to respond to my post. indominus rex
Could the one on the left on the first image be a mako, it kind of looks like one to me. But nice finds. regards and welcome to TFF. Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils.

HoppeHunting
Welcome to the forum! I'd second angustidens for the tooth on the right. The left one is a bit more tricky. Good finds! Also remember both of these teeth are extremely water worn. 1 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022
