New Members Thesloth Posted May 20, 2018 New Members Share Posted May 20, 2018 Hi. I found this in Dorset UK the pictures dont show as much detail as you can see in person, looks like you can see scales and possibly fins. I can see the bones of the head and neck possibly backbone but not sure what exactly it is
fifbrindacier
I think this is a fish, like a congidrae (eel), note that for comparison, i'm not saying it is one. 2 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." New Members Thesloth Posted May 20, 2018 Author New Members Share Posted May 20, 2018 I looked at some pictures of congidrae fossils and they look similar but definitely not the same this fossil has very fine bones coming off a few places down the length of the body in clumps which looks like it may have been fins. Also forgot to mention there is a gold layer over the print on the other side of the rock that I thought could be scales possibly. Its a shame the camera doesn't pick up the fine details so you could see
thelivingdead531
Can you take it outside and photograph it in direct sunlight? That way we may be able to see the details you mentioned?

Fossildude19
I cropped and contrasted the photo: I would say this is a fish, but it looks like it is dorso-ventrally compressed. Fish makes more sense, as the fossils at Lyme Regis speak to a marine environment. It is a very small fish, whatever it is. I don't know how many ammos I've posted here, but I do know that I have roughly 1500 in the collection. Echinoids are a bit over 100.
