New Members Illinois mushroom? Posted February 19, 2019 New Members Share Posted February 19, 2019 I found this in a load of river rock on a job site along with several geodes. The load came from a local river quarry. I think it's a mushroom but I really have no idea.
DPS Ammonite
A fossil mushroom is unlikely since no 3D fossil mushrooms have been found. It probably is a concretion, nodule or geode. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/90546-10-fossil-mushrooms-ever-found/&tab=comments#comment-990833 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. New Members Illinois mushroom? Posted February 19, 2019 Author New Members Share Posted February 19, 2019 It does have what appears to be crystal formation inside the knob. So geode makes sense. What would cause it to form in this shape?
ynot
Looks like it is a geodized crinoid calyx with a little bit of the colmal left.
