Frank Menser
Found this at the pond (Eastern NC). At first I thought it was a fragment, but then on close examination it turned out to be complete. It is half of a bivalve. Here is the outside... ...And the inside. Any thoughts? I should add this measures about 3/4" Edited October 28, 2009 by Frank Menser Be true to the reality you create.
Guest N.AL.hunter
Besides it being an oyster of some type, that is all I can offer for an ID.
jkfoam
Frank, It strikes me as being an Ostrea (Genus). I don't know what the species of this oyster would be though, JKFoam The Eocene is my favorite
Carl
It's actually Agerostrea. I don't know which species, but the genus is very common in the Late Cretaceous of New Jersey.
